Vancouver Winter Olympics officials on Monday said that all scheduled events at the Cypress Mountain venue would go ahead as planned, despite the warmest January on record, and an unseasonable lack of snow.
The venue for snowboarding and freestyle events has been almost bare in recent weeks, with mud at lower levels before contingency plans kicked into high gear in January.
Those plans have involved moving tons of hay bales and covering them with natural and manmade snow stockpiled since November at higher elevation.
Trucks and helicopters were still dumping snow onto the mountain on Monday in an effort to get the Olympic venues ready for the games, which open on Friday.
Dick VOLLET, THE VICE PRESIDENT OF VANCOUVER OLYMPICS MOUNTAINS OPERATIONS, said he was "very confident" the events at Cypress would be a success.
"We've got a lot of work to do in terms of final preparations but we are very confident. The half pipe looks stunning, it is fabulous, it looks really good," he said.
There was no lack of snow in Whistler, the other mountain resort hosting the Alpine and Nordic events.
The first event scheduled is women's moguls qualifying on Saturday, with the finals to be raced later that day. The men's moguls are on Sunday.
