Russia is developing a new multipurpose bulletproof vest which can protect against shell splinters as well as armor-piercing bullets. Yevgeny Chistyakov, spokesperson for steel research center NII Stali, says that the main advantage of this new personal body armor is that it can be modified depending on the mission.
This multipurpose armor is equipped with special removable plates, a yoke to protect the neck and shoulders, a multitude of pockets, and braces for guns. The 15-kilo full set has the highest protection level and can be used in assaults. A lighter version weighs under two kilos and can be worn under clothes. The price of this bulletproof vest is about $1,000, which is two to three times higher than average. However, the developers are confident that their vest is worth it.
