Difficult start, easy finish. Russian analysts on the 2010 Winter Olympics

The Russian team has won just one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the first six days of the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada.
Speed skater Ivan Skobrev won bronze on the day one, while skiers Nikita Kryukov and Alexander Panzhinsky won gold and silver, respectively, on the sixth day. This is the Russian team’s worst results for the past few Olympics. It should be said for comparison’s sake that the Russian team won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the first five days of the 2002 XIX Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, the United States. The Russians also won four gold, three silver and two bronze medals on the fifth day of the 2006 XX Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, and was placed second in the international team rankings after Norway. The Russian team now ranks 11th, while the United States holds first place with 14 medals. But members of the Russian Olympic team are relaxed about it. Snowboarder Andrei Bokarev says a difficult start means an easy finish.
