Across the Black Sea in two weeks: Muscovite attempts record-breaking swim
10:23 GMT 24.02.2010 (Updated: 19:51 GMT 19.10.2022) Forty-six-year-old Muscovite Yury Burlak, who recently suffered a serious spinal injury, not only managed to recover and walk again, but now plans a record-breaking swim across the Black Sea in July 2010.
Forty-six-year-old Muscovite Yury Burlak, who recently suffered a serious spinal injury, not only managed to recover and walk again, but now plans a record-breaking swim across the Black Sea in July 2010.
He plans to swim 300km from the Turkish city Trabzon to the Russian coast. The Sochi sports committee told Yury that his swim would qualify as a Russian record. But that is not what motivates him, he wants his swim to be an example of human achievement in the face of adversity. The swim will start on July 20 and, according to Yury Burlak’s plan, will end on August 5.
