Canada’s British Columbia, which is hosting XXI Olympic Games showed off the wonders of the maple syrup country.
The Okanagan Valley, which has the warmest and driest climate in Canada, is home to many vines that were bred especially for this region and planted in 1980s. These days nearly 20 types of wine are produced there.
Cariboo Chilcotin is known as Canada’s “Wild West.” In 1858 gold was discovered near the Fraser River, which is why the UK formed the colony of British Columbia. Nowadays tourists come here from all over the world to see the gold rush past of Barkerville.
In the language of the locals, Chilcotin means "people of the red ochre river". Less than 2,500 people live in the area of over 80 sq km. Most of them are Native Americans and cattle-breeders.
Tourists are attracted to long horse rides, fishing and birch sap.
British Columbia consists of 29 regions and covers the territory of 95 million ha, which is bigger than France and Germany put together.
