Year of France in Russia: Picasso on display in Moscow for the first time in 50 years

An exhibition of masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, the famous 20th century painter and sculptor, has marked the start of the Year of France in Russia. The large display in Russia’s Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts opened on Thursday attended by Culture Minister Alexander Avdeyev and France's Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand.
Script: The Russian president’s wife, Svetlana Medvedeva, also attended the opening ceremony. The Moscow Virtuosi chamber orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Spivakov, played as guests entered the museum’s Italian court.
This is one of the largest Picasso displays since 1956.
The exhibition includes over 200 pieces from the National Picasso Museum in Paris, which is closed for repairs. The great master’s works are therefore touring the world, taking on new features in each country. In Russia, the exhibition is complemented with Picasso’s works from the Pushkin Museum’s own collection.
