On May 8, Russia and Cuba will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Fidel Castro's Cuba. Genrikh Borovik, one of Russia's best known foreign correspondents, was in Cuba at that time with the blessing of the Politbureau member Anastas Mikoyan, who spearheaded Soviet contacts with Castro.
