A 12-year-old French-Mexican boy has become the youngest novice bullfighter to perform in Mexico City's main ring Plaza Mexico. Michel "Michelito" Lagravere successfully killed his first bull, which weighed 893 pounds (405 kilogrammes). But the "novillero" lost his footing while facing the second bull and was knocked around the sand by the 848-pound (385-kilogramme) animal.
"Michelito" was taken from the ring for X-rays.
"I'm very happy because I did a great work with the first young bull, and I'm leaving with a good 'taste in my mouth'," Michel told the Associated Press from the ambulance.
His father said he suffered only bruises and was expected to be released later on Sunday
Michel Lagravere added that he had been both fearful and proud watching his son in the ring.
"I was scared because I also was a bullfighter and I know what it is like," he said, adding "but I'm proud of my son to see him happy despite being beaten."
"Michelito" claims to have started bullfighting at the age of 4 and credits his love for the sport to being surrounded by bullfighters from an early age.
He has been fighting mostly in Peru and Mexico due to the age restrictions which prevent him from fighting in Spain.
