Ten checkpoints have been set up around the city of Osh, and military units from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defense are enforcing law and order. According to the Ministry of Defense, the military operation is being carried out in order to “prevent the possible infiltration of destructive forces into the city center.”
An around-the-clock curfew has been put in place in Osh, as well as in the Kara-Suu and Aravan districts. All vehicles passing through the checkpoints must undergo inspection. Footage provided by the Kyrgyz television broadcaster Stan TV shows how one such inspection is carried out.
Soldiers patrol the streets of the city in armored personal carriers and infantry fighting vehicles.
