The Moscow Zoo’s Sumatran Orangutan, Mantled Guereza, Meerkat and White-tailed Gnus have had babies. The little ones are now in the loving care of their mothers and families.

It is the first baby for a young orangutan. She used to watch her mother bring up her offspring and now it is easy for her to take care of her own. The little monkey was born in the torrid heat. The zookeepers had to keep the animals in the shade of open-air cages and cover the newborns with tarps.

The Guereza baby, born a month ago is looked after by a troop of older sisters.

Moreover, the Moscow Zoo is now home to new meerkats of the mongoose family and White-tailed Gnus. All of them have been named but the zookeepers are reluctant to reveal their names. This is done to keep zoo visitors from disturbing the animals by calling their names.
