RUSSIA AND EGYPT TO CONTINUE COLLABORATION ON SETTLEMENT OF ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT
"The recent positive trends in the Israeli-Palestinian settlement bring hopes for the future progress in the process on the basis of agreements reached during four-party summit in Sharm al-Sheikh in February 2005," Yakovenko said.
"Russian and Egyptian representatives discuss the prospects of future work in this direction with the goal to reach a universal and just peace agreement on the basis of international law, primarily in accordance with UN resolutions and the "road map" developed by the "quartet" of international intermediaries," the Russian diplomat emphasized.
He also said that during talks with the Egyptian side, Russia focuses on the situation in Iraq, Lebanon and around Syria.
"The sides discuss the improvement of the situation and increasing stability in the region in order to prevent the appearance of new sources of tension, in particular around Lebanon and Syria and following the provisions of UN Resolution 1559 and other relevant UN documents," the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson stressed.
