MONUMENT TO SOVIET SOLDIERS OF WWII GREEK RESISTANCE UNVEILED IN ATHENS
The Russian Embassy to Greece and Roszarubezhtsentr (Russian Foreign Center) agency contributed to the monument - a massive stone mounted on a black granite basement, upon which a Greek woman laments a perished Russian soldier - designed by Russian sculptor Vyacheslav Klykov.
Many Russian and Greek dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev, Russian Ambassador to Greece Andrei Vdovin, Chief of Logistics of the Russian Defense Ministry Vladimir Isakov, other top Russian and Greek army officers, Callithea mayor, WWII veterans, and clergymen.
"I believe the monument will be a good contribution to relations between out countries," Gordeyev said at the ceremony.
