ASTANA, June 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has urged countries to share information on recent unrests in Uzbekistan, which took a high death toll.

"We do not want our countries to be attacked by terrorists. Therefore, we have repeatedly insisted on investigation into the situation in Uzbekistan," Lavrov said.

Those "who wanted to take advantage of a difficult socioeconomic situation to achieve their political goals" contributed to the tragedy, according to the minister.

Lavrov hoped the parliamentary commission set up to inquire into the unrests in Andizhan, eastern Uzbekistan, would work efficiently.

Lavrov also suggested engaging ambassadors accredited in Uzbekistan in the investigation. He said once all possible information had been gathered a final conclusion on causes of the unrests could only be made.

On May 13, gunmen raided a prison and two government buildings in Uzbekistan's fourth largest city. The government sent troops into the city. The authorities reported on 170 people killed in clashes with troops. However, reporters and human rights activists insist hundreds of people were killed.
