BERLIN, September 27 (RIA Novosti, Olga Semyonova) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said in Strasbourg Tuesday that cooperation with Russia was extremely important for all European countries.
"Responsible steps are reflected in sound policy," the chancellor said. "Therefore, strategic partnership between Europe and Russia is extremely important, and to me personally, it is the calling of my heart."
Schroeder said, "...stability and prosperity in Europe cannot be ensured without strategic partnership with Russia, and we have decided to tackle major political issues of our time together."
"Russia is an important partner in the sphere of peace and security in Europe and the world at large, and also in cooperation against terrorism," Schroeder said.
The chancellor described Russia as a partner offering immense opportunities for the German and European economies.
"Europe needs Russia, and Russia needs Europe," Schroeder said.
