MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - Pakistan is interested in developing military cooperation with Russia, in particular, purchasing Russian transport helicopters, Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Thursday.

Russia has good potential as an exporter of armaments and military hardware, and there are opportunities for bilateral cooperation, Aziz said.

Russian helicopters have played a crucial role in the aftermath of the recent earthquake in Pakistan, transporting the injured to hospitals and equipment and medicine to affected areas, the premier said.

Aziz also said Russia could play an important role in normalizing the relations between India and Pakistan.

He said Russia had established close ties with many countries in Central Asia and could, therefore, play an important role in strengthening peace and creating an atmosphere of trust between India and Pakistan.

Aziz said Russia's natural gas company Gazprom would develop gas fields in Pakistan and build gas-processing facilities in the country.

He added that talks were under way to build a gas pipeline linking Pakistan with India and Iran.
