TBILISI, November 9 (RIA Novosti, Marina Kvaratskhelia) - Four Georgian peacekeepers were injured in a car bomb explosion in Iraq Wednesday, Georgia's Defense Ministry reported.

According to the ministry, the bomb went off in a parked Hammer jeep in Baquba, a provincial capital in northeastern Iraq. Three of the peacekeepers, standing nearby, received minor injuries from the fragments, and are now being treated in a local hospital. The fourth sustained a severe head injury and has been flown to Germany for treatment.

Georgia has been contributing to the international peacekeeping operation in Iraq since August 2003, and its contingent currently totals 850. In addition to Baquba, Georgian peacekeepers are also active in Baghdad and Tikrit, 160 km northwest of the Iraqi capital.
