Transdnestrian power station cuts off supplies to Moldova

19:4209/11/2005
CHISINAU, November 9 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Novosadyuk) - A major fuel-run power station in Transdnestr, a self-proclaimed republic in Moldova, cut off power supplies to the right-bank parts of Moldova Wednesday.

The station meets 46% to 47% of Moldova's total electricity needs.

Moldova is now using reserve supplies. No mass power cuts have been reported in the country.

The general director of a the power station Sergei Syskov had said in late October that as of November, power supply to Moldova would be cut off if Moldovan energy networks did not agree to pay the new tariff of $0.048 per kilowatt hour, up from the current $0.035, a price that has caused the station losses since a gas price hike of 50% in May.
