SAMSUN (Turkey), November 17 (RIA Novosti) - The Blue Stream natural gas pipeline actually broadens European borders, the Italian prime minister said Thursday at the pipeline's opening ceremony.
Silvio Berlusconi said the world was becoming a common space considering the possibilities for energy and information transfer, the capabilities of the Internet, and other technical innovations.
He said Blue Stream proved it was possible to deliver energy resources to consumers thousands of kilometers away.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the Blue Stream pipeline opened a new dimension in relations between Russia, Turkey, and Italy.
He said Turkey's main goal was to become an energy corridor from east to west and from north to south.
Erdogan added that the Turkish government intended to turn the port of Ceyhan into the world's largest international oil and natural gas terminal.
