BEIJING, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Chinese Foreign Ministry agreed for a team of Russian experts to study the accident site near the chemical plant in Jilin, the Russian ambassador to China said Saturday following a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.

Sergei Razov stressed the importance of joint efforts to resolve the problem, taking into account the proposals made by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The Russian ambassador said useful recommendations could be worked out to eliminate the effects of the accident.

During the meeting, initiated by the Chinese side, the foreign minister, on behalf of the Chinese government, apologized for the chemical spill in the Songhua River.

Toxic chemicals that spilled into the Songhua River near the city of Harbin in northeast China after the November 13 accident at a nearby petrochemical plant could reach the Russian city of Khabarovsk on December 4 or 5, the Russian Natural Resources Ministry said Friday.

The Russian embassy in China is closely monitoring the situation, keeping Moscow up to date on the situation, the ambassador said.
