Kazakh parliament ratifies Eurasec export control agreement
ASTANA, November 29 (RIA Novosti) - The parliament of Kazakhstan has ratified an agreement on a uniform export-control procedure for the five member countries of the Eurasian Economic Community (Eurasec).
"The ratification of the agreement will simplify the procedure for exports to non-CIS countries and will allow Kazakh exporters to move freely around Eurasec countries [Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan] without transit registration," First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ivan Kravchenko said Tuesday.
The document makes materials, equipment and technologies that could be used to produce weapons of mass destruction subject to export control. Permission for export granted by one party to the agreement will be effective throughout Eurasec territory.
The agreement was signed October 28 in Moscow and has been ratified by Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus to date. The ratification law has been submitted to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev for his signature.
Eurasec was founded in 2001 and aims to create a full-scale customs union and common economic space among its member countries, which cooperate in efforts to join the World Trade Organization, harmonize customs tariffs and develop common border security guidelines.
