Georgian president sanctions military build-up

TBILISI, January 5 (RIA Novosti) - Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has signed amendments to the law on Georgia's armed forces that envision the increase of the number of military personnel, the state chancellery said Thursday.
According to the amendments, the total number of military personnel in the Georgian armed forces in 2006 will be increased from 21,550 men to 31,878 men, including 26,000 under the defense ministry and 5,868 serving in border guard units.
