Tajik political parties protest Russian ambassador's statement
14:47 06/02/2006
DUSHANBE, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - Three Tajik political parties said Monday that the Russian ambassador's recent statement that the country's incumbent president would be unchallenged in presidential elections in November was meddling in the Central Asian republic's domestic affairs.
"The Russian ambassador to Tajikistan launched the election campaign of the country's president, which has not been officially announced," the Democratic, Socialist and Social-Democratic Parties said.
The parties also said foreign ambassadors were not authorized to make such statements and asked Abdulatipov "to avoid interfering in Tajikistan's domestic affairs".
Ambassador Ramazan Abdulatipov said January 24 that incumbent Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov would not have any opponents in the upcoming elections.
