17:45 15/02/2006
VIENNA, February 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and the European trio of Britain, France and Germany called on Iran to return to the negotiations table and to refrain from actions that may escalate tensions, Austria's foreign minister said Wednesday.
Ursula Plassnik said that participants in a meeting between the European trio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had expressed their regret over Iran's decision to resume uranium enrichment.
The foreign minister, whose country currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, said they were calling on Iran to stop all enrichment work and added that Russia was continuing to play a constructive role in efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear problem.
