Saakashvili charges Russia with bulling Georgia

22:04 21/02/2006
TBILISI, February 21 (RIA Novosti, Marina Kvaratskheliya) - The Georgian president accused Russia Tuesday of attempts to destabilize and intimidate Georgia.

"We are not afraid and there is no cause for concerns. We enjoy the support of the European Union, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the United State's Senate and administration," Mikheil Saakashvili told a session of the National Security Council.

He said the European Union had made a "loud statement backing Georgia's peaceful initiatives."

At the same time, he continued, Georgia is ready to solve all problems with Russia on the basis of cooperation and constructive dialogue, with respect for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

On Tuesday, the consulate department of the Russian Embassy in Georgia said it would stop issuing visas as of February 21, 2006 barring cases involving humanitarian factors.
