Iran's nuclear negotiators leave Moscow for Vienna talks

MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - The Iranian delegation involved in two days of talks on Russia's offer to host Tehran's disputed uranium enrichment program left Moscow for Vienna Thursday.

The delegation, headed by Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, is expected to hold talks with the EU trio (Britain, France and Germany) prior to the meeting of the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency scheduled for March 6. The meeting could launch procedures leading to the punishment of Iran by the U.N. Security Council, which has the right to impose sanctions.

A source in Russia's Security Council said negotiations between Russia and Iran might resume either in Russia or in another country in the next few days.

Moscow's offer to enrich Iran's uranium on Russian territory, backed by the United States and the European Union, is seen as a potential compromise in the crisis standoff over the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic, which some countries suspect of pursuing a covert weapons program.
