EU drafts blacklist of unreliable air companies
Topic: Russia-EU relations
BRUSSELS, March 22 (RIA Novosti, Alexander Shishlo) - The European Union has drafted a list of unreliable air companies that will be partially or fully banned from flying over the territory of its member states, an EU source said Wednesday.
The blacklist, which will be approved Wednesday, comprises about 92-96 airlines, including from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Most of the companies, according to preliminary information, are from Asia and Africa. None are based in Russia.
EU experts have been compiling the list for approximately nine months. Work had to be speeded up in connection with air crashes in Greece and Colombia in summer 2005 that claimed lives of some 300 people, including EU citizens.
