Putin discusses integration with Kazakh president

22:01 12/04/2006

MOSCOW, April 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev discussed bilateral and multilateral integration in a phone conversation Wednesday, the Kremlin press service said.

"The two heads of state discussed current aspects of bilateral and multilateral integration in the context of the recent visit of the president of Kazakhstan to Russia," the statement said.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev made a two-day official visit to Moscow on April 3-5, focusing on economic ties, scientific research including space, and bilateral cultural links.

In Moscow Nazarbayev met with Putin, and delivered an address to the lower house of parliament, the State Duma.

The countries signed protocols on the use of Russian military and research testing grounds and centers on Kazakh territory.

Nazarbayev's visit also saw the signing of an agreement on the launch of the first Kazakh telecoms satellite KAZSAT.

Trade between Russia and energy-rich Kazakhstan, which has the fastest developing economy of the 15 ex-Soviet republics, currently totals $10 billion, but the country's two leaders hope to double the figure in near future.
