MOSCOW, May 2 (RIA Novosti) - Two German nationals have been detained at Moscow's main international airport each trying to illegally take out of the country more than $20,000 over the May public holidays, police said Tuesday.

Foreigners are allowed to take $3,000 or the equivalent out of the country without filling in a customs declaration form and are obliged to present a form for up to $10,000, which the individuals in question apparently failed to do. Central Bank permission is needed to take out more than $10,000.

"Over the public holidays, the air transport police at Sheremetevo-2 detained two German citizens who were trying to take out more than $20,000 that were not entered on a customs declaration form," the police press service said.

According to the police, the first German was found to be carrying undeclared currency worth $25,800 when searched at the airport and the second had $28,200 in cash.

At nearby Sheremetevo-1, a Russian national was reported to have been stopped before boarding a flight to Lithuania with $9,800 in undeclared currency.
