KIEV, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Ten people were hospitalized after an elevator plunged from the 23rd floor of the Ukrainian Transportation Ministry building in Kiev, an emergencies official said Monday.
The source said five of the injured had sustained fractures, with the other five having minor injuries.
The elevator, carrying 16 people, was in freefall until the braking system responded on the 11th floor, which helped slow down the descent and cushioned the blow, the spokesman said.
An investigation is under way.
