KIEV, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's pro-Russia Party of Regions will become a strong but constructive opposition after three Western-leaning "orange" movements struck a deal to form a parliamentary majority, a party member said Thursday.

The party's decision follows the signing of a coalition deal by the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, the pro-presidential Our Ukraine party and the Socialists on Thursday morning, which should pave the way to the formation of a government. The deal froze out the Party of Regions, which won most votes in the March 26 elections.

"We are ready to work in opposition and do our job well," said Rinat Akhmetov of the Party of Regions faction. "We will toughly control the government's work and propose alternative solutions."

Yevgeny Kushnarev, deputy head of the Party of Regions faction in the Supreme Rada, called for the adoption of a law on opposition soon that would allow a shadow cabinet.

"Our party will be in tough and constructive opposition," he said.

The Party of Regions has 186 seats in the 450-seat legislature. The three parties in the majority deal, who helped propel Viktor Yushchenko to presidency in 2004 street protests known as the "orange revolution", hold 243 seats and all the key posts. Another opposition party, the Communists, has 21 seats.
