Ukraine's parliament has been deadlocked since March 26 elections failed to produce a clear outcome. Three Western-leaning parties agreed to form a coalition June 22, but work has now stalled as a pro-Russian group continues to block the Rada's rostrum in protest over planned allocations of senior posts.
"The Supreme Rada is disabled, and I believe it will do nothing good for Ukrainians. Consequently, it should be re-elected as soon as possible," Petro Symonenko said.
The opposition Party of Regions, has kept Rada from working since Tuesday in protest to the newly-formed coalition. Party leader Viktor Yanukovych said the party was prepared to block parliament's work for 30 days if necessary, a legal condition for its dissolution.
Symonenko slammed the coalition over its inability to assume responsibility for forming a team with a single program.
