KIEV, July 6 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's government will be formed on July 21, a day before the one month deadline expires, the outgoing prime minister said Thursday.

Under Ukrainian law, the newly elected parliament is to appoint the government within a month of the formation of a parliamentary coalition, which happened on June 22. But political wrangling between parties has raised concerns that it might not happen.

But Yuriy Yekhanurov, who is expected to be replaced as prime minister, was upbeat. "I think that the government will be formed a day before the deadline under the law," he said.

The Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, the pro-presidential Our Ukraine bloc and the Socialist Party, which helped propel Viktor Yushchenko to the presidency in 2004, formed a majority coalition in parliament on June 22 after three months of squabbling over key posts.

The opposition Party of Regions, which was frozen out of coalition talks after winning the largest share of votes in the March 26 elections, blocked the rostrum for almost a week, demanding posts in parliamentary committees.

President Yushchenko initiated a roundtable to resolve the standoff Monday but only Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko turned up for the event.

If politicians fail to find a compromise and form the government by July 22, the president is entitled to dissolve legislature and call new elections, but Yushchenko has already indicated that this would probably prove too costly.
