G8 Mideast statement adopted by consensus on Putin formula

"We are satisfied that we have managed to reach consensus on a formula proposed by our president," the source said on the sidelines of the current G8 summit near St. Petersburg. "It is simple. The most important thing now is to take urgent measures to end military action."
He said the G8 document was recommendatory.
"G8 does not seek to replace the Middle East Quartet of international mediators," the source said, adding that all decisions needed approval from the UN Security Council.
The Middle East Quartet includes the UN, the European Union, the United States, and Russia.
The leaders of Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Canada and Japan will conclude their three-day summit on Monday.
