BISHKEK, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Protesters who gathered Wednesday in the capital of Kyrgyzstan to support freedom of speech in the country stopped their rally after talks with the Kyrgyz prime minister.

More than 200 people gathered in Bishkek to support freedom of speech in the country, following a September attack on an independent TV station.

Unidentified attackers broke into the technical center of Kyrgyzstan's largest independent television station Piramida and set it on fire September 28.

Journalists, members of parliament, political parties and non-governmental organizations spoke with Prime Minister Felix Kulov, who promised them THAT the television station would soon resume its work.

The protesters demanded that the Kyrgyz government thoroughly investigate the attack on the television station, which was founded 15 years ago and was known for its independence.

"The authorities must remember that independent media is still a key element in the development of democracy in Kyrgyzstan," the protesters said in a statement to the government.

Before the attack in September, the station was off the air for two months, and last summer the company's central office was also attacked. In both attacks, the police did not identify any suspects.
