ASTANA, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakhstan's per capita gross domestic product has hit $5,100 in 2006, the ex-Soviet Central Asian republic's economics minister said Monday.

"GDP has reached more than $76 billion, or $5,100 per capita," Aslan Musin told reporters after a routine meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"The construction and the services sectors are gaining momentum," he said. "The population's real incomes are on the increase, while unemployment is down."

The government's ambition is to bring per capita GDP to $6,543 by the end of 2009, under a three-year program launched in 2007. The growth rate in the period is expected at an average 8.8%.

Oil-rich Kazakhstan is the most prosperous country in ex-Soviet Central Asia. Its economy has grown about 75% over the past seven years.
