KIEV, February 24 (RIA Novosti) - Opposition leaders in the Ukrainian parliament Saturday sent a letter to President Yushchenko urging him to restore the constitutional order in the country.

Ukraine's outspoken opposition leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, and the head of the pro-presidential Our Ukraine bloc, Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, expressed concern over current policies conducted by the "anti-crisis" coalition in parliament, the Supreme Rada, and the government led by Viktor Yanukovych.

"The activities of the so-called "anti-crisis" coalition and Yanukovych's government cannot be controlled either by society or constitutional norms," the letter said.

"We urge you [Yushchenko], as the head of the [Ukrainian] state, as the guarantor of the Constitution, a patriot and the moral leader of the Ukrainian people, to take all possible steps aimed at restoring constitutional order in the country," the opposition leaders said.

The "anti-crisis" coalition in the Supreme Rada comprises the Party of Regions (185 deputies), the Socialist Party (31 deputies), and the Communist Party (21 deputies).

The BYT and the Our Ukraine factions in the Ukrainian parliament have 125 and 79 deputies, respectively. A minimum of 226 votes is needed for the 450-seat Supreme Rada to pass draft legislation.

Both opposition factions inked Saturday a unity accord and pledged to unite all democratic forces, both within and outside parliament, into the united All-Ukraine democratic movement.

The united opposition will seek early parliamentary and local legislature elections, and will demand the imperative mandate for deputies of local legislative bodies, the abolishment of December 2004 amendments to the Ukrainian constitution and the adoption of a new draft of the country's fundamental political document.
