GAZA, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - Palestinian doctors confirmed Tuesday that two people have died and 15 people have been injured in a sewage flood in the Gaza Strip.
Sewage runoff from collapsed reservoirs Tuesday submerged about 250 homes in the village of 6 000.
Earlier, local police reported that at least nine people died and about a hundred were injured in the village of Umm Naser, in northern Gaza. The number of the victims was later reduced to six, but some people remain missing.
Local authorities said the accident might have been caused by obsolete infrastructure, the result of insufficient investment in modernization due to economic sanctions imposed against the Palestinian National Authority.
Palestinian Interior Minister Hani Al-Qawasmi rushed to the affected region immediately. On the way, gunmen attacked his car and five people inside were killed.
