BELGRADE, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - After a two-day debate, Serbia's parliament, Narodna Skupstina, Wednesday elected Oliver Dulic, 32, as its new speaker.

Of 229 MPs attending the session, 135 voted for Dulic, who was nominated by the three major democratic parties. Serbia's parliament has 250 seats.

Dulic's candidacy was agreed to in the course of consultations between the government coalition parties - the Democratic Party, led by Serbian President Boris Tadic, the Democratic Party of Serbia, led by Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, and the G-17 Plus party.

The previous speaker, Tomislav Nikolic, the second man in the Serbian Radical Party, which finished first in the January 21 parliamentary election with nearly 29% of the vote, was elected speaker May 8.

His election sparked international protests, notably because the leader of his party, Vojislav Seselj, is in prison, having been tried by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Nikolic resigned May 13.
