Iraqi government newspaper Al-Sabah said earlier the agenda of talks between U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker and Iranian Ambassador Hassan Kazemi Qomi would include four key issues: "supplies of Iranian weapons to Iraqi militant groups, the situation around the Mujahadeen-e-Khalq organization, U.S. military presence in the Gulf region and the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq."
Tehran has accused the U.S. of supporting MEK, the largest and most extreme of Iranian anti-government groups allegedly with bases in Iraq, and demanded its members be expelled from Iraq or extradited to Iran.
The White House in turn has charged Tehran with providing Shiite militia in Iraq with weaponry and explosives. The Islamic Republic denies the accusations and blames Washington for the bloodshed and violence in Iraq that has followed the U.S.-led invasion. Tehran also wants U.S. warships out of the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian foreign minister earlier said a dispute over Iran's controversial nuclear program would not be discussed at the talks.
