MOSCOW, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - The British Embassy in Moscow is checking reports of the possible murder of a New Zealand resident, who traveled to the Russian capital on a British passport, a spokesman for the embassy said Monday.

The spokesman confirmed that Pamela Crane, 76, was last seen on May 29 at the Moscow hotel where she was staying. The British Embassy together with the New Zealand Embassy and Russian authorities conducted an extensive search for her, he said.

The spokesman said a body was found that is believed to be Crane's but an official forensic examination has yet to be conducted to confirm this. Information from New Zealand will be necessary to confirm the identity, he added.

Crane had been living in New Zealand for several decades, and had permanent residency there.
