THE HAGUE, June 20 (RIA Novosti) - Dutch police have arrested an 84-year-old driver for driving without a license for 67 years, a police spokesperson said Wednesday.

The police said they had discovered the offense after an insurance check. The driver said he had driven a car for 67 years without ever having an accident or being stopped by the police.

He admitted to driving without a license, insurance, and never having had his vehicle examined at a garage, he assured the police that he would take his car to the scrap dealers straight away.

The previous record for driving without a license in the Netherlands was held by a 64-year-old man who was stopped by police in 2005 having driven for 41 years without a license.

The driver stated that he had driven an average of 90,000 kilometers (56,000 miles) annually, which added up to a lifetime total of 3.5 million kilometers (2.20 million miles).
