TEL AVIV, July 2 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli troops shot dead a field commander of a paramilitary group, with close ties to the Palestinian Fatah party, in the West Bank town of Jenin, local media said Monday.
Mohammed Haija, one of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade commanders, affiliated with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, was killed in a shootout with Israeli troops during a raid.
Local media reports said Haija was considered close to Zakariya Zubeidi, a high-profile leader of Al Aqsa.
During a night raid on the West Bank, Israeli troops also arrested six Palestinians on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activity.
