ABU DHABI, July 8 (RIA Novosti) - At a meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the United Arab Emirates spoke in favor of an Arab peace plan to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Emirates news agency WAM reported Sunday.
The Arab peace plan proposes recognition of Israel by Arab nations in return for Israeli withdrawal from the lands it occupied in the 1967 Mideast war. The plan also allows for the creation of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem and the return of Palestinian refugees.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayid al-Nuhayyan urged the world community to give a new impetus to the Mideast settlement based on the Arab peace plan.
Abbas is visiting the UAE on the eve of a meeting of the Middle East quartet of mediators (Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations) scheduled for July 16.
