BELGRADE, July 9 (RIA Novosti) - Kosovo Albanians demand the international community set a deadline for a decision over the Serbian province's status, the prime minister of the provisional government, said on Kosovo radio, a Belgrade news agency reported.

The United Nations has so far failed to pass a resolution on the status of the predominantly ethnic Albanian province, after Russia's opposition to a draft proposal granting Kosovo internationally supervised sovereignty.

Agim Ceku said the process needed to be sped up as it has lost its tempo.

Kosovo, which has a population of two million, has been a UN protectorate since NATO's 78-day bombing campaign against the former Yugoslavia ended a war between Serb forces and Muslim Albanian separatists in 1999. It remains one of Europe's poorest regions.
