TOKYO, July 23 (RIA Novosti) - Leading Japanese carmakers Toyota and Mazda announced they would partially resume production, after a key auto parts plant restarted operations following a July 16 earthquake in Japan, Kyodo news agency said Monday.

Riken Corporation's plant in Kashiwazaki, near a nuclear power plant that was also damaged by the earthquake, is Japan's main producer of piston rings and seal rings.

Isuzu Motors, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. and Nissan Diesel Motor Co. have already resumed full production, while Daihatsu has restarted operations at some of its facilities, the agency said.

Last Monday's 6.8-magnitude quake killed at least 10 people and inflicted serious damage to infrastructure in northwest Japan. About 340 buildings were completely destroyed, and 5,000 people have yet to return to their homes.
