ROME, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - Italian police have detained 40 suspected Mafia members from two struggling clans, accused of involvement in a shootout that led to the death of six Italians in Germany, local media said Thursday.

The bodies of five men and one critically injured man, who later died, were found August 15 in two cars next to a pizzeria in Duisburg, western Germany. All of them, aged 16-39, had gunshot wounds to the head. Police found a total of 70 discarded gun cartridges at the scene. Eyewitnesses said their assassins had opened fire from two cars.

Police said the incident occurred following a blood feud between Mafia members from San Luca, in southern Italy.

The suspects have so far been charged with criminal activity, murder, and illegal arms supply.
