TOKYO, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - The next round of six-party talks on North Korea's denuclearization could be held in the middle of next week in Beijing, Japan's Kyodo news agency said Thursday.

China, traditional host of the talks, also involving Japan, Russia, the United States and the two Koreas, coordinated the proposal with Pyongyang following the postponement of the new round originally planned for September 19, the agency cited U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey as saying.

Casey said the participants in the talks were still considering the proposal, and that China was expected to make an announcement in the next two days.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Thursday all parties to the talks were still coordinating the date.

"I do not have any specific information on the date of the resumption of the talks," Jiang Yu said at a news briefing in Beijing. "The parties are still consulting on that issue."

Kyodo said if the parties fail to set the date for next week, the talks could be postponed until the end of October following the second-ever summit between the two Koreas on October 2-4 and a congress of the Chinese Communist Party in mid-October.

The upcoming talks are expected to finalize a timeline for the second stage of the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, which envisions North Korea shutting down all its nuclear facilities.
