ANKARA, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - At least one person was killed and 11 injured Tuesday in two blasts in Izmir, Turkey's third largest city, local TV said.

The first explosion injured two men collecting garbage near a shopping mall. The second bomb was dropped by an unknown motorcyclist near a carpet shop in the city's most crowded street. The latter blast injured nine passers-by and killed one local resident.

During the subsequent search for the bombers, police closed off streets around the scenes, and unofficial sources say two more suspicious bags have since been found in the area.

Local authorities are yet to make an official comment, and it is still unknown if any foreign nationals were among those injured in the attack.

So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the explosions. However, police sources say that Kurdish radicals, including the Kurdistan Freedom Hawks, a military wing of the banned Kurdistan Workers Party, tend to favour plastic explosives.

Turkey has seen a spate of attacks in recent months. On June 10 a stun grenade was detonated near a clothing store in Istanbul, injuring 14 people. In late May, a suicide bomb attack in Ankara killed eight people and injured 100. Turkish officials accused the Kurdistan Workers Party of being behind the attacks. The group denied involvement.

Izmir is a popular tourist resort, located in the Gulf of Izmir, by the Aegean Sea.
