LONDON, November 2 (RIA Novosti) - Deputy foreign ministers of six world powers agreed Friday to start working on a new UN Security Council resolution on the Iranian nuclear problem at a meeting in London, a Foreign Office spokesman said.

"Political directors agreed to finalize a text for a third UN Security Council sanctions resolution with the intention of bringing it to a vote in the UN Security Council unless the November reports of Dr Solana and Dr ElBaradei show a positive outcome of the efforts," the spokesman said.

The Iran Six representatives, from Britain, France, Germany, China, the United States and Russia, decided Friday that they will meet again November 19 to discuss reports by International Atomic Energy Agency head Mohamed ElBaradei and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

In late September, foreign ministers of the Iran Six set a November 30 deadline for Iran to halt its nuclear program, which many countries see as a cover for an atomic weapons program.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has already called for new sanctions against Tehran if it fails to comply, a position shared by France, the U.S., and Germany. Washington unilaterally imposed further sanctions against Iran last Thursday, which will affect a number of Iranian banks and two elite military units.

Russia, which is building a nuclear power plant in Iran under a $1-billion contract, has resisted any tough sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and flatly ruled out military action, insisting on diplomacy. Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a visit to Tehran last month that there was no evidence Iran was developing nuclear weapons.
