The meeting will include a session of the Russia-NATO Council, to be attended by Gen. Yury Baluyevsky, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. Talks will focus on the NATO-Russia work plan for 2007.
On the second day of the meeting, the bloc's 26 chiefs of defense will elect a new chairman of the NATO Military Committee, who will replace Canadian Air Force Gen. Ray Henault in summer 2008, NATO said in a news release.
"The chiefs of defense from Italy (Adm. Giampaolo di Paola: navy), Poland (Gen. Franciszek Gagor: army), and Spain (Gen. Felix Sanz Roldan: army) are the three candidates for election," the statement said.
The session in Brussels will also address ongoing NATO-led operations and missions including in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and cooperation with Ukraine's military.
